ISIBANI PRESS

The Caterer
According to the caterer, “there’s a sophisticated, sweet, and spicy twist to all the dishes at Isibani, blending the flavours and familial warmth of homely African cooking with the charms of fine dining. But that’s not exactly how Isibani began. The restaurant, tucked away on a back street opposite the side entrance to the Bulgari hotel, between the Harrods and Harvey Nichols department stores, originally launched in August with an elaborate set menu designed by MasterChef: The Professionals semi-finalist Victor Okunowo, who placed more of an emphasis on a small-plate, fusion experience”.

The Caterer
According to The Caterer ’’The menu is inspired by traditional home cooking with a “Nigerian core”, with dishes such as Ogbono soup (£21), a Nigerian local bean stew with tenderloin beef paired with rice or fufu (a starchy dough made of pounded yam, plantain, or cassava); djollof rice (£9), a best-seller; and the egusi soup (blitzed melon seed cooked in palm oil, flavoured with tomato, pepper, onions, scotch bonnet and spinach, laid on a base of pounded yam), which will be added to the new menu in the coming weeks’’.

Urbanologie
According to Urbanologie ”The restaurant – named after the Zulu word meaning ‘bring the light,” has been described as a love letter to West African cuisine and the owners Nigerian heritage. Tucked down a side street behind the Bulgari Hotel, the space channels the vibrant colour palette of Africa alongside that of a neighbourhood restaurant. The ground floor restaurant provides a more refined, fine dining experience, whereas the 1st floor and roof terrace offer a more relaxed menu”.

Hotdinners
According to “Hotdinners,” London’s growing West African restaurant scene is getting bigger with the new restaurant Isibani, heading to Knightsbridge. Set up by Anthony Douglas Chuka and Abdul Malik Abubakar, the duo are describing it as “a love letter to West African cuisine”.

Jay Rayner
According to Jay Rayner ‘’on account of the pepper soup. Oh God, the pepper soup. Bathe me in the pepper soup. I’ll come back to that in a moment. Isibani, which opened last year down a tidy pedestrian cut-through beside the Bulgari Hotel, feels like a neighbourhood restaurant for a part of London that doesn’t have one. If you don’t count the masters of the universe living in the nearby chrome-clad apartment blocks protected from the world by layers of concierge, security and wealth-encrusted paranoia. Which I don’t. Still, there’s a profound warmth to this small, brightly lit dining room with its blue banquettes and marble floor and its waiters eager to help you navigate the unfamiliar’’.

The Resident
According to The Resident ‘’ Isibani, a new West African restaurant on Knightsbridge Green helmed by MasterChef The Professionals semi-finalist Victor Okunowo (ex-The Wolseley; ex-Chiltern Firehouse), is inviting diners to try a tasting menu as part of a launch offer’’.
